Chamber Annual Banquet

On Saturday, April 26, 2014, the Hugoton Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to the 2014 Annual Chamber Banquet.  The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with a Meet and Greet.  Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. with awards and entertainment following.  This year’s event will again be held at Memorial Hall, 200 East 6th Street, Hugoton, with the theme “A ‘Magic Moment’ for Stevens County.”   Each year the Chamber recognizes the accomplishments of individuals and businesses in the community.  This year will be no exception as they will present awards to include the 2013 Business of the Year, 2013 New Business of the Year, 2013 Citizen of the Year, and 2013 Lifetime Achievement.

The Chamber is proud to present this year’s entertainment for the banquet, Frankie Valens.  Frankie was a nightclub singer in the late 60s and early 70s whose signature song was “This Magic Moment.”  He also recorded “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” and “She Cried.”  He toured the United States and Canada and was showcased in Las Vegas.  Frankie was an extra in the movies Ice Castles and Every Which Way But Loose.  The Byrds, the Platters and the Boxtops are 60s groups with whom Frankie has shared the spotlight.  Frankie’s wife, Phyllis, is an accomplished concert pianist who plays many different styles of music including ragtime, patriotic and inspirational.  She also joins Frankie in singing with him on some “oldies” duets.  Frankie and Phyllis traveled in their ministry for 18 years before coming off the road for forced retirement due to health problems.  They are back again on a part-time basis and doing what they do best – singing and playing.  Frank is currently pastor of the First Christian Church in Syracuse, Kansas.  Frankie has also authored several books including his autobiography “Chasing an Illusive Dream.”  Visit their website at www.frankievalens.com for more information, pictures, and “sound bytes” of songs from their fifteen CDs.  For those interested, his books and CDs will be available for purchase the night of the banquet.

Tickets to the banquet are open to all Chamber members for $25 each.  Tickets may be obtained by contacting the Chamber office at 620-544-4305.
